Lady Cats receive region awards

The Lady Cat softball team finished second in the GHSA 4A Region 1, and their efforts were awarded on Tuesday at an awards banquet.

Seven Lady Cats were honored with region awards from the GHSA.

Senior Brenna Conley was chosen as the region player of the year. Conley dominated the region from the mound with 40.2 innings pitched, an era of 0.69, 73 strikeouts and allowed just 14 hits, 10 walks, and 4 earned runs. She also played well with a bat in her hand, recording 16 runs, 17 RBIs, 8 doubles, 3 triples and a .545 batting average.

Senior Haylee Nix, junior Kylie Miller and junior Haisten Wilkinson were voted to the first team infield. 

Nix recorded 12 hits, 10 RBIs, 24 runs with an on base percentage of .622 and a batting average of .375.

Miller recorded 14 hits, 15 RBIs, 16 runs (2 homeruns), 3 doubles and a batting average of .452. 

Wilkinson recorded 13 hits, 9 RBIs, 12 runs, 1 double, 1 triple with an on base percentage of .625 and a .520 batting average.

Juniors Destiny Lofton and Emilee Tindell were voted to the first team outfield.

Lofton recorded 6 hits and 15 runs with an on base percentage of .615 and a .375 batting average.

Tindell recorded 11 hits, 9 RBIs, 1 double and 1 triple with an on base percentage of .500 and a .355 batting average.

Freshman Laynie Varnum was voted to the first team pitching squad. She pitched 16 innings with a 3.1 era. Varnum threw 16 strikeouts and allowed 23 hits, 6 walks and 7 earned runs.

Junior Abigail Holley was named the second team Catcher. She recorded 10 hits, 7 runs and 7 RBIs with a .269 batting average.
