Betty Jeanette Elkins was born October 16, 1931, in Seminole County, GA, the daughter of Robert & Willie Mae Odom Elkins. She married Joseph Harrison Hughes, and they made their home in Southwest Georgia. Betty was a member of Black Jack Baptist Church.

Family gatherings and reunions were more than just occasions to “catch up”. Betty’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy as they shared their daily antics and accomplishments. Betty kept in tune with the younger folks by watching country music videos and her daily repertoire of soap operas.
