The Lady Cats played two playoff games Wednesday, winning and losing one. They started the day at 1 p.m. with a game against Trinity Christian School.

Brenna Conley Led the Lady Cats to a 2-1 victory over the Lady Lions. Conley ended the game with 13 strikeouts.

Trinity Christian opened the scoring in the first inning with a run from junior pitcher Kaylee Croft.

The Lady Cats answered with runs in consecutive innings. Junior center fielder Destiny Lofton hit a home run in the third inning to tie the game up. Junior second-baseman Haisten Wilkinson scored the Lady Cats’ deciding run in the fourth inning.

The Lady Cats shut out the Lady Lions for the rest of the game to secure the win. Conley struck out more than half of the batters she faced in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings to keep the Lady Lions from getting much going offensively. Conley finished the game with 13 total strikeouts.

The Lady Cats’ win over Trinity Christian meant they moved on to the second round of playoffs against West Laurens.

The Lady Raiders were the No. 1 seed in the Lady Cats’ side of the bracket. They would fall 3-0 to the top-ranked team.

The current playoff stage is a double-elimination format, meaning a team has to lose twice to be knocked out. The Lady Cats are on their last life after the loss to West Laurens.

Up next for them is a rematch against Trinity Christian on Thursday. If the Lady Cats win, they will play West Laurens again. They will have to beat the Lady Raiders twice in a row to advance to next weekend’s state tournament.
