The Cougars are focussing on themselves in preparation for Citizens Christian Academy Friday.

The team has two games under its belt, and head coach Richard McClure said the team is starting to find its identity.

“We’re still continuing to put pieces of the playbook in as we go,” McClure said.”We’re still trying to figure out the things we do well… at the end of the day, for us, it’s going to be trying to get our faster guys out on the edge.”

He gave props to junior quarterback Owen Earnest and his ability to use his legs.

“Our quarterback is pretty quick on his feet,” McClure said. “The things where we can get him out in space, we want to do that. And, of course, play action.”

Defensively, McClure will focus on physicality in practice leading up to Friday night.

“One thing that continues to stand out in my mind is tackling and flying to the ball,” McClure said. “If we do that, we give ourselves a chance to win a football game.”

The Cougars play the Patriots at home on Friday, kickoff at 7:30.
