Johnny Strickland Newton, age 78, of Bainbridge, Georgia, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family. The Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 3, 2023, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Tim Dean officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 on Sunday, September 3, 2023, immediately before the service. Pallbearers honoring Johnny will be: Chase Woodard, Dan Ausley, Bill Woodard, Chip Ariail, Johnny Mac Hand, and Paul Simpson and two honorary: Jim Shepard and Mike Shepard. A private burial will be held at Oak City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Serenity Foundation of Georgia Hospice Care, 1111 Hillcrest Parkway, Dublin, GA 31021 in his honor. Johnny was born January 4, 1945, in Bainbridge, Georgia the son of Alton Justice Newton, Sr. and Annie Dell Strickland Newton. He graduated from Bainbridge High School with the class of 1963. He worked at Elberta Crate for 50 years. He married the love of his life, Peggy, they had 59 years of loving marriage. Johnny and Peggy have three daughters, that were the apple of his eye. Johnny was a dedicated father and grandfather to his six grandchildren. He loved fishing, fixing things, western movies, and camping. Johnny and Peggy collected so many camping buddies throughout their adventures. He was known around the neighborhood for his bike riding with his puppy, Teddy. Johnny loved country cooking and never met a stranger. He was inventive and loved helping and teaching others. He was patient, kind, outgoing, and loved others and they loved him. Survivors include his wife, Peggy Newton; daughters, Kelley Ausley (Dan) of Tallahassee, FL, Lisa Ariail (Chip) of Bainbridge, GA, and Amy Woodard (Bill) of St. Johns, FL; grandchildren, Savannah, Maya, and Alexa Ausley, Chase, Ben, and Taylor Woodard; in laws, Jim Shepard, Mike Shepard , Jo Ann Bono, and Kathy Turley; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Johnny was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Eloise Pittman and Alton Newton. The Newton family has entrusted the arrangements to Ivey Funeral Home, 502 S. Scott Street, Bainbridge, GA 39819.
