The Bainbridge YMCA finished its weight room renovation. The new space received upgrades to aesthetics and equipment.
“The ones that are serious about weightlifting, they are giddy about all this,” said YMCA wellness director Kim Mills. “One guy told me he wanted to move a cot back here and live in [the weightroom].”
The room is full of new equipment, modernizing a workout experience that Mills described as “outdated.” Nautilus brand workout machines, anti-rust weight plates and free weights make up most of the renovation. The renovation included repurposing a racquetball court, putting three squat racks, a Stairmaster, and more equipment in the room.
It got a visual overhaul as well. The walls are painted white on the bottom and black on the top, and new LED lighting was installed.
“I knew it was going to look better,” Mills said. “But I never dreamed it, you know, would all come together like this.”
Ryan Murrah grew up in Bainbridge and went to the YMCA. He’s moved away since but still works out at the Y when he’s in town. Murrah was in town and saw the completed renovations.
“When I came in, I was like, ‘What is this?’” Murrah said. “All the new machines and equipment, it is a complete 180 from what it used to be.”
