Members of the Decatur County Commissioners met for their first meeting of the month on Tuesday morning. After the invocation and pledge, the commissioners moved to the first item on the agenda, a presentation by Superintendent Dr. Boyd English. English spoke to the commissioners, recapping his history in education, having worked over 30 years in both the Alabama and Georgia education systems.

“It’s about the kids,” he said. “Our youth deserve the best, and we’re committed to giving them the best.”

English then proceeded to take questions from the commissioners about various topics, including the new middle school building, issues with teacher shortages and retirement, as well as work skills training, to name a few topics.

Following English, the commissioners moved to the next and last item on the agenda, consideration of a boom mower bid. According to county administrator Alan Thomas, the county received five bids, two of which did not meet the county’s specifications. The one bid that met the requirements that the commissioners settled on was a mower similar to the current one, at a price of $265,509.75, with a delivery date of November 30. The commissioners approved the bid.

Following this, the commissioners gave their closing remarks, and adjourned the meeting.
