Grace Christian Academy sent three teams to North Florida to compete in a state-level fishing tournament last weekend.

The two-day Florida BASS Nation tournament took place on the Harris Chain in Leesburg, FL. The teams didn’t compete in the Georgia BASS Nation competitions because their lakes are in the northern part of the state.

Melinda Glenn, the mother of 3 GCA anglers, said competing in Florida cuts down the drive times to and from competitions.

“Most of the [Georgia BASS Nation] lakes are in North Georgia, and it’s so much travel,” Glenn said. “There was so much four, five, six-hour travel that we looked into [Florida BASS Nation], and the lakes are just so much closer.”

Three teams of GCA anglers competed. 6th graders Walker Brogdon and Perry Glenn finished the weekend in 25th place. 4th grader Rosie Glenn and 5th grader Skye Clements came in 28th. 2nd graders Luke Clements and Barron Glenn ended up in 31st place.

Glenn said the teams didn’t do as well as they would have liked, but they were just happy to be there.

“It’s really fun. We did OK,” Glenn said. “We were just tickled to go, not everyone gets to go.”
