Mr. Jarvis Leon Hanley, age 89, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2023, at his home surrounded by family in Cairo, Georgia. Services for Mr. Hanley will be held at 3:00, Tuesday, June 6, at Hilltop Bible Baptist Church in Cairo. The Rev. Chris Allen, Rev. Wendell Hanley, Dr. Kenneth Cloud, and Rev. Glen Scoggins will officiate. Billy Willis, Patrick Ouzts, Terrance Collins, Jay Bentley, Jake Cumba, and Archie Parker will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 1:00.
Jarvis Leon Hanley was born December 24, 1933, in Ashland, Georgia, to Cecil S. Hanley and Gladys Ella Cole Hanley. Leon grew up in Commerce, Georgia. He proudly served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for many years as a supervisor at Owen Illinois Glass Company in Atlanta, Georgia. Later he drove a truck for Sunnyland Meats and Roddenbery. A faithful member of Hilltop Bible Baptist Church, Leon enjoyed worship and greeted everyone with a smile and warm hand shack or embrace. He dearly loved people and will be sorely missed by the family he loved so much and his many, many friends.
Leon Hanley is survived by his loving wife, Opal Bishop Hanley of Cairo; children, Edward (Eddie) Leon Roach of Nevada, Danny Roach of Dallas, Texas, Tina Holt of Jackson, Georgia, Shane Hanley (Leigh Ann) of Sylacauga, Alabama, Teresa Roberts (Mike) of Bainbridge, Georgia, and James W. Spearman, Jr. of Atlanta; 8 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dillard Hanley and sister Geneva Lee.
