The Bainbridge Decatur County Recreation Authority’s new rec facility has been under construction for several months now, and is slated to be completed by the end of this year. Rec Authority executive director Joel Holmes gave the Post-Searchlight a tour of the facility construction site on Monday, showing and explaining what people should expect once the building is up and running.

Walking to what will become the front desk, Holmes pointed out how the facility, which was originally meant to be double the size with two basketball courts, is still being constructed with adding on the second court in mind. The facility is currently set to feature one basketball court, a multipurpose room, a conference room and offices for staff, a concessions stand, and multiple bathrooms. The concession stand can be opened both indoors for basketball games, and outdoors for soccer games at the neighboring fields. Additionally, some of the new facility’s bathrooms will be accessible from outside, offering closer relief for soccer game spectators than the previously available ones. The facility will still feature one full-size basketball court, which will also be equipped for volleyball games as well. Holmes stated the bleachers will be able to seat around 200 people.

“It’s gonna be nice, it’s gonna be what we need, for sure,” he said. “Just can’t wait to get in it.” Holmes continued, “We’re just excited about the programming this new facility will allow us to offer. We’re looking forward to better serving Bainbridge and Decatur County.”
