Law enforcement and emergency crews were dispatched to Tallahassee Highway in the early morning hours of Thursday, in response to a reported gas leak.
According to BPS fire chief Doyle Welch, the leak was caused by the construction of the Wawa gas station, neighboring AT&T and Circle K. Welch stated that work crews had been digging to place a water line, when they struck an unmarked gas line that had been “missed in the marking.”
Emergency crews evacuated the nearby hotel and businesses, though Welch stated there was “no great danger”, as the wind helped disperse the gas. Crews quickly shut off the gas and set about replacing the damaged section of pipe.
