On Tuesday, April 11, Grace Christian Academy athletes took to the school’s new sports complex for senior night. This senior night honored seniors from all spring sports, not being limited strictly to baseball. These athletes included Kevin Brooks, accompanied by Ronald and Suzy Brooks; Alida Jones, accompanied by Phillip and Sara Jones; Mallory Jordan, accompanied by Eddie and Nan Jordan; Anita Patel, accompanied by mother Mandy and aunt Nita Patel; Lauren Roberts, accompanied by father Daniel and little sister Taelyn Roberts; Kassidy Widner, accompanied by Michael and Kim Widner; and Ben York, accompanied by Jim and Theresa York.
Following the senior’s recognition, the baseball game itself got underway, with the Cougar’s going up against Crisp Academy. Oathen Atkinson allowed no runs. Aiden Whittaker hit four runs, with a sacrifice fly in the first, and a triple in the fourth.
The Cougars made ten runs in the fourth inning, courtesy of Noah Smith, Hines Roberts, Keith Eidson, Whittaker, Graham Beckham, and Roberts, who each had RBIs in the inning.
Back on the mound, Atkinson allowed only one hit and zero runs over four innings, striking out three and walking zero.
Beckham went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead in hits, and three Cougars stole at least two bases. Landon Temples led with three. Roberts had the most chances in the field with ten.
Ultimately, the Cougars would beat Crisp 15-0. Following this, the Cougars would face off against Aucilla Christian in a doubleheader, losing the first 5-2 and winning the second 3-2. They would play Fullington Academy next, with an impressive 15-1 victory.
“The team is really clicking at the right time. We have had some ups and downs this season, but I see a lot of growth and heart,” said coach Ryan Riles. “Being named Region Champs really set my guys on fire and they are really confident going into the playoffs. The Lord is doing some special things with this team and without him we would not be where we are!”
