Those looking to grab a bite to eat in downtown Bainbridge may have to change their plans, as Bonnie Blue House has moved from its old location on Calhoun Street. Now located on 402 W Water Street, the restaurant has undergone several changes, while still keeping some old favorites.
Restaurant owner Jared Godwin spoke with the Post-Searchlight about the move, which he said began in fall of last year. He clarified that he had had his eye on this new location, formerly the Decatur County Senior Center, for about a year prior.
Godwin gave people an idea of what to expect at the new location, saying, “We’ve got pretty much a whole new business plan, to be honest with you.” He elaborated, saying, “We’re keeping some of the old menu items that people love, and mixing it in with some new fresh stuff,” specifically with a focus on adding new seafood options. Reflecting this change in menu, the restaurant now sports more nautical decorations, like old ship wheels, deck ropes and even a miniature lighthouse. “We figured, being on the river, we wanted to do a little bit more maritime I guess.”
Further capitalizing on the new location, the restaurant features a back patio for dining with a scenic view of the river, and Godwin further stated that they plan on adding a covered deck. When all is said and done, the restaurant will be able to hold 350. Now with more room, Bonnie Blue is planning on renting space for events, already scheduled to host a class reunion next month. The new location also has the added benefit of better parking, with both nearby public parking, as well as two lots of their own. “You know the old place, it was kind of a free for all, whoever got there and for whatever business you were going to, that kind of thing.”
Business hours have also changed. While the restaurant will still be closed on Sunday and Monday, it will now be open for lunch on Saturday; additionally, Bonnie Blue will remain open later Thursday through Saturday, open until 2:00 AM on Friday and Saturday.
“I’m just excited about the location, being on the river. I think that’s gonna be a good draw for us,” Godwin said. “We’re excited to serve more people in Bainbridge.”
