Charles Thomas Atkinson, Jr. was born June 19, 1961, in Bainbridge, Ga., the son of Charles, Sr. and Mary Cowan Atkinson. He was a graduate of Seminole County High School, Class of 1979 and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.  Charlie worked as an industrial welder for Danimer Scientific. He was a member of Bainbridge Country Club and First Church of The Nazarene.

Charlie could construct anything with metal. He was considered an artist and described as a “connoisseur of welding” sharing his treasures with family and friends. Charlie critiqued work during teachable moments, like when he was making necessary repairs, and always praised a job well done. He was a drummer, a die-hard Alabama fan, and enjoyed being on the water hunting or fishing. Family (defined as his children, his grands, his dogs, and his friends who were like family) meant the most providing opportunities for adventures, material for his stories, and memories lasting a lifetime.

Survivors include his wife of 8 years, Karol Godwin Atkinson; his mother, Mary Atkinson; his children, Farrah Williams (Zane) of Columbus, N.C., Corey Atkinson (Brandy), Ashley Godwin (Trisha), and Wesley Godwin (Ashley) all of Bainbridge; his grandchildren, Tyson, Briar, Damon, Tori, Caden, Rylan, Carter, Brayden, Weston, and Walker; his siblings, Danny Atkinson (Danna) of Houston, TX, and Stephanie Miller (Kevin) of Birmingham, Ala.; his adopted brother, Tim Ray (Kelly); his fur babies, Kace and Seba; and a host of nieces and nephews. Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Charles T. Atkinson, Sr.

Charlie lived for game day, so it is only fitting you don your favorite college football gear for the service at his family’s request.
