After falling to a 1-7 start to begin the season, the Bainbridge High School baseball team has begun to find their groove as they have rattled off three straight wins to begin Region play. A three-game series sweep of Westover High School saw the Bearcats outscore the Patriots 33-3 as they exploded for 17 runs in Wednesday night’s win.

Not only does this series sweep provide a morale boost in the locker room, but it already shoots the Bearcats up in the rankings as they currently sit with a perfect 3-0 record in their region. The first game of the Westover series would be the closest Westover would come to upsetting the Bearcats as they came out to a 1-0 lead after their half of the first inning. The Bearcats responded with runs in back-to-back innings in the first and second, and added one more in the seventh inning as they secured a 3-1 win.

Owen Richard and Drew Clayton provided the RBI’s in the win as Keenan Phillips scored two runs and Bo Smith added one more. Defensively, pitcher Chris Cooper had great command on the mound as he pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits and one run, while striking out seven batters. Out of 29 total batters faced, Cooper retired 25 of them.

In the first game of the Bearcats double-header on Wednesday, the offense was on the attack as the Bearcats jumped on the Patriots pitching, tagging them for 13 total runs. The Bearcats defense remained consistent as their pitchers once again had great command, not allowing a single run to the Patriots offense as the Bearcats cruised to a 13-0 shutout victory in game one of the double-header.

In the final game of their double-header and series finale against the Patriots, the Bearcats offense picked up right where they left off a few hours prior and once again showed plate discipline, an aggressive attack, and smart base running as they once again lit up the scoreboard, this time for 17 runs. It was a stress-free night for the Bearcats as their defense allowed just two runs in the series finale as the Bearcats secured a 17-2 win for their third win in a row.

On the offensive side for the Bearcats, Bo Smith, Koby Wynn, and Owen Richard seem to be an incredible trio as all three are batting above .300 and all lead the team in on base percentage. Defensively, the Bearcats combination of aces Kagen Castro and Chris Cooper on the mound have made it extremely difficult for opposing hitters.

The Bearcats will now prepare for a three game series against Hardaway, beginning on March 14 with the last two games coming at home at Bainbridge High School on March 17 with the first game of the double-header beginning at 5:00p.m.
