The Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce gathered at 305 S West St on Friday afternoon, to host the ribbon-cutting ceremony for New Foundations Family Services, Inc.’s new office. Having been previously located at 601 N Clay St. for two years, husband-and-wife duo Dr. Sharon Sirmons Brown, company CEO, and president of the board Dewayne Brown, found themselves making the move out of necessity.

“We were continuing to grow, and as we were getting more clients, we started looking for a larger facility,” Dewayne said. “And when this became available, of course this is ideal, because of the privacy, parking in the rear… it gives the clients more privacy.”

In a press release, New Foundations described their mission as “to promote safe, thriving, and resilient rural communities in South Georgia by providing services through a holistic approach, which allows a balance between social, emotional, occupational, intellectual, spiritual, physical, financial, and environmental dimensions in the lives of youth and their families.” The business specializes in offering counseling for men, women and children.

Aside from their recent move, New Foundations is also still at work on opening their men’s transition center, which will aim at helping men who may be coming out of prison, rehab, or going through a difficult time in their life. They hope to have it open by July 1 of this year.

“You know, as a counselor, but more so as a Christian,” Dewayne said, “I think that it is each person’s obligation to help their fellow man. God gave us all different skills to be able to use, and of course our counselors have some fantastic skills. But I think that, as a Christian, we should use those skills to help other people, to serve other people.” He continued, “I often tell people, my clients, if you find the way to be able to give of yourself to other people, without expectation of return, you’ll find true joy, peace and happiness in your life.”
