Buryl Higdon Harrison was born July 21, 1928, in Whigham, Ga., the son of Leo & Eva Moore Harrison. He was a graduate of Whigham High School. Buryl married Martha Lee in 1948, and they lived 71 years together on their family farm in Climax. He was a farmer and livestock broker known to many in Southwest Georgia. Buryl was an active member of Climax United Methodist Church.

Slow was Buryl’s highest gear. He never got in a hurry and always took time to hug you. He lived a form of “tend & let”: he tended his livestock, his garden, and his business and he let you know when you needed to do something different. Buryl had a stubborn streak and was not easily moved from his position…like “every farm should have hogs”. He enjoyed good food and could cook it himself. When he decided not to cook, he was visiting his buddy down at Dairy Queen. Buryl grew okra, potatoes, and sweet potatoes and gave away everything he grew. He did a little hunting, traveling to the mountains, and riding horses. Playing cards with his neighbors was friendly competition with high stakes. Buryl loved catching up on the news with friends and family.

Survivors include his children, Keith & Cheryl Harrison and Elaine & Winston Moore; his grandchildren, Christy & Elliot and Billy; his great-grandchildren, Adison, Annalee, and Cole; his brothers, St. Elmo Harrison of Whigham and Ronald Harrison and his wife, Rhudeen, of Climax; and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, Buryl was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Lee Harrison, and his brothers, Donald Harrison and Kermit Harrison.
