Funeral services for Donald Stanley Mobley, Sr. 78, of Whigham, Ga., were at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 9, 2022, at Salem Baptist Church, Climax, Ga. Rev. Kerry Dinkins, Rev. Charles Whatley and Rev. Ryan Zearing officiated. A private interment was at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Cairo, Ga. Mr. Mobley passed away at his home on Thursday, May 5, 2022.

Active pallbearers were: James Mobley, Matt Mobley, Huddie Harrell, Scott Davie, Chad Johnson and Greg Welch. Honorary pallbearers were: Larry Welch and Todd Johnson.

Mr. Mobley was born on October 4, 1943, in Whigham, Ga., to the late Hiram Daniel Mobley and Mamie Baggett Mobley. He served his country in the United States Army Reserve. On July 3, 1964, he married Ann Welch Mobley, who survives. They were married for almost 58 years. He was the Valedictorian of Whigham High School in 1961 and went on to graduate from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. He started his career at Grady Tractor Company before going to work at the Grady County Health Department where he worked for more than 30 years as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist. During his career, he touched and impacted thousands of people. After his retirement, he enjoyed spending time on the family farm where he was born and raised. He loved to watch things grow and always planted a big garden just to give away vegetables to his family, friends and neighbors. Stanley was a member and past president of the Whigham Community Club. He was a loyal member of the Cairo Kiwanis Club where he served as President, Lieutenant Governor and was named a Paul Harris Fellow award recipient. He served as a School Board member for the Grady County Board of Education. He was a member and served as Chairman of the Board for the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce in 1998. He was chosen as Grady County Man of the Year in 1999 and again in 2003. He was a member of the Southwest GA EMS Council where he served as President for many years. Stanley served as a Deacon and co-Treasurer of Salem Baptist Church for many years.

Above all, he loved his family and always enjoyed spending time with them at gatherings large and small. He loved to cook, and his highlight was always being up early on Thanksgiving morning to get the smoker going for the perfect turkey. He was a servant at heart and his joy was helping and serving others any way he could.

Survivors include: his wife, Ann Mobley of Whigham, Ga.; children, Stan Mobley, Jr. (Daña), Whigham, Ga., Wendy Bennett (Marty) of Cairo, Ga.; sister, Sara Martin of Johns Creek, Ga.; sister-in-law, Mary Mobley of Baldwyn, Miss.; sister-in-law, Anne Allen (Elmer) of Pelham, Ga.; sister-in-law, Glenda Moore (Richard) of Cairo, Ga.; brother-in-law, Billy Welch (Gail) of Cairo, Ga.; Grandchildren, Lee Cox, III of Jacksonville, Fla.; Lauren Mobley (Christian) of Tallahassee, Fla.; Sara Morgan Comiskey (Jon) of Buena Vista, Colo.; Leigh Mobley of Milwaukee, Wis.; Lydia Mobley (Cory) of Whigham, Ga., and Jacob Bennett of Cairo, Ga. He had a special great-granddaughter, Harley Quinn Vega of Tallahassee, Fla., who was his little doll; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; siblings, Daniel Mobley, Cebron Mobley, brother-in-law, J.B. Martin and a nephew, Bo Mobley.
