Jack Albert Routon was born June 23, 1944, in Fairburn, Ga., the son of S.L. and Beatrice Baker Routon. He was a graduate of Campbell High School, Class of 1962. Jack proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was on active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of Peachtree City Church of Christ and attended Bainbridge Church.
Jack spent years working in the family grocery business while deciding on a career. He chose helping others as a way of life serving his community as a firefighter and paramedic. He loved people (especially the grandchildren he spoiled on occasion), tent camping, and reading anything he could get his hands on. Jack held strong opinions and didn’t mind sharing a word with whomever would listen. Grandchildren were the highlight of his existence in recent years, and he reveled in being “that grandpa” amongst the crowd at their activities.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Brenda Hudson Routon; his children, Tonya & Edward Reynolds and Heath & Paige Routon; his grandchildren, Kyle, Kaden, Caroline, Adella, McCoy, Raegan, Griffin & Amy, Hudson, and Mary Mercer; and his siblings, Barbara (Leon) Nestlehutt and Dr. Jim (Emmaline) Routon. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, John Routon.
Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
