Bearcats, Lady Cats tennis team goes undefeated in region

The Lady Cats and Bearcats tennis teams have been on a hot streak, winning both of their most recent region matchups against Cairo and Monroe.

The streak began last Thursday, when the Lady Cats defeated Cairo 6-0.

Number one singles, Rylan Bland defeated McKenzie Wilbourn in an epic 6-0, 6-0.

Number two singles, Riley Palmer then took to the court, winning out over Shimei Duvenhage 6-3, 6-1.

Number three singles, Lily Tomek sealed the win with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 win over Sara Lokey.

Number one doubles, Brooklyn Wade and Abigail Trammell kept the winning streak alive, beating Mollie Grace Meredith and Brooklyn Gomez 6-2, 6-3.

Number two doubles, Kaylee Grace Buchanan and Megan Springer finished out the match with a win over Laney Mathers and Laney Roberts in a close set of 6-1, 7-5.

Over on the Bearcats’ court, the team had managed to squeeze out a 4-1 win, before the weather ended number one singles, Thomas Shockley’s match early.

Prior to the rain, Shockley had won his first set against Case Williams 7-6 and was winning his second set 5-4.

Number two singles, Cullen Glover beat Cort Lander in a resounding 6-0, 6-0 fashion.

Number three singles, Gamble Tabb fell short to Andrew Cumbaa 1-6, 4-6.

However, with the Bearcats still in the lead, all the team needed was one double’s match win to claim a victory.

Number one doubles Joseph Marshall and Aiden Odom were able to give the team the much-needed win in a 6-0, 6-3 match against Will Walden and Hagan Flasure.

Number two singles, Skylar Jones and Levi Sanchez brought in an extra win for good measure, beating Pistol Burkes and Cedrick Brown in a close set of 6-3, 7-5.

Still undefeated in region, the teams then turned their attention to region competitor Monroe on Monday night.

The Lady Cats won in a resounding 5-0 fashion, while the Bearcats took home a 4-1 victory.

Bland took the position of number one singles again, defeating Precious Thomas 6-0, 6-1.

Palmer competed against Charisse Harris in number two singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.

Tomek was the final singles player to take to the court, winning over number three singles Lakije Morris 6-2, 6-2.

In number one doubles, Wade and Trammell beat Kamelia King and Amaya Morris 6-0, 6-0.

Buchanan and Springer finished out the match with a win over number two doubles Mia Cosby and Takira Reese 6-2, 6-1.

Over on the Bearcats’ court, Shockley fell short to Monroe’s number one singles Jordan Demps in a close match of 3-6, 3-6.

Glover then took down number two singles, Calik Davis, 6-0, 6-0.

Number three singles, Tabb also won over Katarian Hill, 6-1, 6-1.

Both doubles teams dominated.

Number one doubles Marshall and Odom beat Zion Robinson and Keon Morris, 6-3, 6-1, while number two doubles, Jones and Sanchez didn’t allow for a single point, winning over Willis Harris and Jordan Thomas 6-0, 6-0.

Both the Lady Cats and Bearcats are now undefeated in region play and will host the Region Tournament at Bainbridge High School on April 12-13.
