Betty Jean McRae was born December 19, 1935, in Bainbridge, Ga., the daughter of Edward & Katie Perry McRae. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School. Betty married Buford Brock in 1952 and they made their home in Bainbridge where she was a dedicated member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Known to the multitudes simply as “Miss Betty”, this woman set a high bar for everything from friendship to work ethic. She opened Betty’s in 1980 and worked for the better part of the last four decades in every role. She served southern cooking with a dash of whatever was on her mind. Every morsel of food and conversation was filled with love. “Miss” Betty’s world revolved around her children and those grands. She laid a firm foundation instilling the importance of her faith. The significance of her church’s mission and her church family was evident in her everyday life. “Work it out” was the motivational speech she delivered any time you felt a little under the weather or if you were not keeping up with her pace. An icon. A legend. The reason you know what a “Betty Burger” is.
Survivors include her children, Bobbie & Melvin Davis, Lois Brock, Wayne Brock, and Mike & Chanda Brock; her grandchildren, Jason, Julie & Bryan, Jenni & Rex, Crystal & George, Ryan, Zach & Amanda, and Beau; her great-grandchildren, Dawson, Davis, Perry, Bubba, Ryker, Jade, Eden, Avery, Brantley, Rylee Kate, Cohen, and Cruz; and community of friends that she fed over the years. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Buford L. Brock.
Bryant Funeral Home, located at 105 N. Florida Street, is assisting the family with arrangements. (229-246-3321)
