Local XC teams have great showing during first away meet in Albany

Grace Christian Academy, Bainbridge High School and Spring Creek Charter Academy had their first cross country meet of the season at Sherwood Christian Academy on Saturday, August 21.

The Bainbridge Middle School Girls placed 1st overall with a score 31, while the Bainbridge High School Varsity Boys placed second overall with a score of 63. The GCA Varsity Boys followed up in third place with a score of 127.

Individually, GCA middle schooler Walker Elrod placed 1st for the Middle School Boys with a time of 11:05.9, setting a new course record. Gambler Dollar placed eighth for the Bainbridge middle school team with a time of 13:22.1 and Le’Tuan Howard placed 28th with a time of 17:01.9.

Spring Creek Charter Academy’s middle schoolers Matthew Strickland and Asher Flowers rounded out the top 40 finishers with a time of 17:56.2 and 17:59.8
For the middle school girls, Bainbridge’s Teagan Barefoot placed 5th with a time of 15:34.3, while Caroline Maxwell followed up just seconds later, placing 6th with a time of 15:41.7.

GCA’s Kara Overman placed 9th with a time of 16:41.3 and Bainbridge’s Carrington Smith and Lawren Love placed 11th and 12th with times of 17:19.0 and 17:33.6.

SCCA’s middle schooler, Elizabeth Adams rounded out the top 25 with a time of 20:04.2.

The Varsity GCA and BHS runners had a great showing, individually.

BHS runner Landon Watts placed 1st with a time of 18:24.5, while BHS runner Jared Davis placed 5th with a time of 21:07.1. GCA runner Keith Eidson placed eighth with a time 21:45.9. BHS runner Malcom Spann rounded out the top 20, placing 17th with a time of 22:39.0.

For the Varsity Girls, BHS runner Rylan Bland placed 2nd with a time of 26:53.7, while GCA’s Kate Poitevint placed 4th with a time of 28:32.3. Alexis Harden of BHS and Kayla Brawell of BHS placed 14th and 16th respectively with a time of 32:06.7 and 33:16.9.

GCA’s Kate Sigman rounded out the top 30, placing 28th with a time of 35:50.1.

The BHS and BMS cross country teams will now compete in the Dueling Summits Race in Tallahassee on August 28.
