Mrs. Ida Lou Salter, age 83, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, in Bainbridge, Georgia. Services for Mrs. Salter will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 12, at Pine Forest Baptist Church, 104 Pine Forest Road, Climax, Georgia 39834. Rev. Conrad Salter will officiate. The family will gather at Climax Baptist Church, 6:00 – 8:00, Friday evening. Also, the family will receive friends at Pine Forest before the funeral service, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Interment will follow in Pine Forest Church Cemetery.
Ida Lou Godwin was born November 7, 1937, in Decatur County, Georgia. Her parents, Willie G. Godwin and Addie Mae Hutto Godwin, have preceded her in death. She married the love of her life, Claude Nathaniel (Nathan) Salter, in January of 1954. Nathan preceded her in death on March 23, 2021. Lou was a homemaker and mother of five. She dearly loved her family and her church. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She had a “green” thumb and enjoyed working in her flowers.
Mrs. Salter is survived by her children, Kenneth (Charlotte) Salter of Whigham, Georgia, Garry (Karon) Salter of Cairo, Georgia, Paul (Phyllis) Salter of Colquitt, Georgia, Donna (Eddie) Green of Bainbridge, and Brenda Miller of Slocomb, Alabama; 11 grandchildren, with 3 of those, Sean, Christy, and Katie, awaiting her in Heaven; and 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Calvin Godwin (Carolyn) of Cairo; in-laws, Joe Salter of Climax, Georgia, J. D. Salter, Edna Salter Brock, and Mildred Salter McNair, all of Bainbridge; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 grandchildren, and siblings Shellie Mae Daley and Jimmy Godwin.
