Lauren Turner has been chosen as the Artist of the Month for May.
Lauren’s medium is photography, which she has enjoyed since childhood. She has progressed from the old Kodak Instamatic camera with a flash cube to the 35mm film camera to a digital camera.
She has studied with Miller County Photographer Jerry Miller. “I have learned so much from Jerry over the years. He is a wonderful photographer and is so knowledgeable of all aspects of photography,” she proclaims. Her primary interests in photography have been landscape and nature, but she is also working to improve her skills as a portrait photographer. One of her most prized photos is a photo of the train trestle on the beautiful Flint River. It hangs in the lobby of Jones-Wheat Elementary School where she served as Assistant Principal.
A native of Ideal, Georgia, Turner came to Bainbridge in 1985 to teach in the Decatur County Schools. Now a retired administrator and teacher, she works part-time at Cox Funeral Home as the Director of Social Media and a Funeral Attendant.
Lauren’s work will be on display in the Kirbo Gallery of the Firehouse Arts Center during the month of May.
The Kirbo Gallery is regularly open every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., or any time the sign is posted on the sidewalk.
