As more people opt to pop out of the car and onto a bike, the search for bike parking in Bainbridge is on. There are only so many sign posts that can double as a bike hitch. The City of Bainbridge is looking for ways to increase bike parking options. In the process, the commitment is to install racks that respect the bikes, the cyclists and the properties.
Studies have proven that bikes are good for business – cycling consumers are loyal customers – returning most often and spending the most money. Recent research out of Portland, OR, shows that cycling customers spent more money per person than their car-driving counterparts at bars, restaurants and stores.
That’s good news for local businesses – and the key to a new opportunity for bike friendly and community conscious businesses and individuals to get on board. Fifteen bike hitches have been purchased, all featuring the Bike Bainbridge logo, and are looking for sponsors. Visit Bainbridge and the Downtown Development Authority have both committed funds to the initiative and the city is looking for new sponsors. Bike racks will be located in 15 locations throughout downtown.
The cost to sponsor a bike rack is $300 and includes a sponsor plaque. If you are interested, please call Randee Eubanks at (229) 248-2000.
