The Lady Cats ended their state playoff run on Friday night against Troup County after a win 40-34 against undefeated Baldwin County earlier on Tuesday night.

Following a lengthy trip to Baldwin County, the Lady Cats came out hot on the court in the first quarter.

Kirston Noble led the team in the first quarter with five points. She made a three-point shot and a layup, while Angel Peterson netted three points. Peterson made a layup and a free throw shot. Detavia Salter ended the first quarter with a layup, giving the team a total of 10 points in the first quarter.

The second quarter saw Salter make five points through a series of layups and free throw shots. Taralyn Brown made a three-pointer, while Taniah Register and Elexis Warner each contributed two points, giving the team 12 points and a total of 22 points headed into halftime.

The team fought hard to get to the net in the third quarter.

Noble led in points in the third quarter with five points. She made a three-pointer and a layup. Salter and Angel each made a layup, giving the team four additional points.

It all came down to the fourth quarter, where senior Anndrea Porter led the team in scoring with four points.

Noble and Salter both made a layup and Ashanta Peterson ended the game, making one final free throw.

“They made great plays and had a great team win,” Head Coach Kelvin Cochran said.

Cochran compared the game to the Lady Cats recent game against Cairo, where The Lady Cats took away their undefeated title.

“Baldwin was also undefeated, but the girls played hard, and they played together,” he said.

The team then prepared to take on Troup County.

Cochran acknowledged prior to going into the game that Troup County was a good team and had played in a tough region, already beating out other Columbus area schools.

The Lady Cats ended up falling short 41-48, but were led by Salter with 15 points, Angel with 9 points, Brown with 6 points, Register with 4 points, Noble and Porter with 3 points each and Courtney Sanders with one point.

Cochran thanked God for blessing him with a great group of young women to work with, before telling his senior players he loved them and would miss them tremendously.

Salter ended the year being named to First Team All Region and being named Defensive Player of the Year.

“It’s an awesome accomplishment for her,” Cochran said. “All the other coaches in the region agreed she was a big difference maker and really blocked so many shots.”

Brown was named to 2nd Team All Region and Noble was named in Honorable Mention.
