Doretha Croom Stewart, age 88, of Donalsonville, Ga. passed away Wednesday evening, January 20, 2021.

Funeral services for Mrs. Stewart were held on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at 3:00 PM at the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with Rev. Andy Merritt officiating.  Interment followed at Hebrew Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery with Phillip Reese, Jaye Tillman, Robin Faircloth, Jeff Croom, Chris Croom, and Emmett Cloud serving as active pallbearers.  Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hebrew Freewill Baptist Church 3299 Hwy 253 Donalsonville, Ga.  Due to the ongoing COVID concerns, we asked that masks be worn and social distancing to be practiced.

Mrs. Stewart was born in Donalsonville, Ga. on June 18, 1932 to Rufus Jackson (Jack) Croom and Queen Ester Alday Croom.  She worked for many years as a telephone operator for Bell South and was an active member of Hebrew Freewill Baptist Church as long as her health allowed.  Mrs. Stewart had served as clerk of Hebrew Freewill Baptist Church since 1982 and had been a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the Seminole County Search and Rescue Team, the Jubilees, the Fellowship Club, the Ladies Auxilary of Hebrew Freewill Baptist Church, and the Women of Grace Widows. Mrs. Stewart was also an active member of Woodmen of the World.  She had assisted the voters of Seminole County at the polls for over 35 years.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her sisters, Betty Reese (Rudolph) of Jakin, Ga. and Carolyn Gray (Tom) of Donalsonville, Ga.; her nephews, Phillip Reese, Robin Faircloth, Jeff Croom, Chris Croom, and Emmett Cloud; her nieces, Shirley Jones, Carol Tillman, Nikki Dollar, and Neva Odom; her great nephews, Craig Bryan, Kyle Bryan, Jeffery Croom, Josh Croom, Joey Reese, Kyle Faircloth, Aaron Heard, Cody Heard, Mason Bland,  Edwin Cloud, Danny Croom and Owen Croom; and her great nieces, Katie Caldwell, Jenny Greba, Melissa Weil, Amber Cloud, and Harper Croom; as well as several great-great  nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Queen Ester Croom; her husband, James H. Stewart; her brothers, Harvey Glen Croom, Rufus Ray (Happy) Croom, and Jackson Wade Croom; her sisters, Evelyn E. Croom and Patricia Croom Cloud, her niece, Helen Reese; and her nephew, Chuck Faircloth.
