Monday, January 11, a two-car collision occurred at the intersection of GA 310 and GA 38 that resulted in a fatality.
According to reports, Pearlie Stubbs, 63, was traveling south on GA 310, when she stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of GA 310 and GA 38. Stubbs then crossed the westbound lanes of GA 38, before entering the median and trying to cross the eastbound lanes of GA 38. While trying to cross into the eastbound lanes, Stubbs failed to see David Alley, who was traveling in a Ford Econoline transit bus.
Alley was unable to stop in time and struck the back of Stubbs’ vehicle in the right rear, causing the car to rotate clockwise and come to rest on the eastbound shoulder of GA38.
Timothy Bell was a witness to the accident, as he was driving behind Alley. He told officers although Stubbs stopped at the stop sign, she never stopped at the median and pulled out in front of Alley.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Marcus Marchant responded to the scene and helped extricate Stubbs from her vehicle before contacting South GA EMS to take her to Bainbridge Memorial Hospital. Stubbs was later pronounced dead at MHM.
