Last week, the Bainbridge High School AFJROTC began to finish up their community service projects, with each block having worked on their own unique way of giving back. While other blocks worked on toy drives and honoring law enforcement, the Second Block cadets worked on a clothing and food drive for the Salvation Army, soliciting donations from the other cadets over the past 3 months. Merreann McDonald and the Bainbridge Salvation Army collected the donations last Friday.

Clothes were donated by students, used but in good condition. As for food, the students collected 504 pounds total, with 80 pounds of bagged rice and 300 cans of food.

“The cadets not only had to collect the donations, but had to keep track of their progress toward their goal,” Senior Master Sgt. Scott Morehouse said. “The cadets had set a goal to collect over 500 pounds of food to donate to the Salvation Army. As they got closer to this goal, the cadets added a clothing drive to their goal as well.” He expressed his pleasure with how the students have handled their projects, “I am extremely proud of the progress this team has made to achieve the goals they have set. It is wonderful to see the cadets identifying needs within the community and finding ways that they can get involved to help.”
