SouthWind Plantation was named the Bainbridge- Decatur County Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month for October.

SouthWind Plantation was once a vision of founder, Tim Smith, who has transformed his vision into the “ultimate hunting experience”. The vision began with an initial land purchase of one hundred seventy acres in 1994. For the first six years of operation, SouthWind Plantation was enjoyed on a private basis. In 2000, SouthWind’s doors opened to the public, offering the original Main Lodge for overnight accommodations. In 2005, the fifth season of public operation, SouthWind Plantation was honored to become one of only twenty-four Orvis Endorsed Wing-Shooting facilities in the United States. Over the last sixteen years, as business has grown, SouthWind Plantation has acquired several additional tracks of land and expanded its hunting operation to also include cattle production, row crop farming, and quality hunting puppies available for purchase. In 2015, SouthWind Plantation built a state-of-the-art puppy-birthing kennel and is honored to be one of the country’s select few kennels to be recognized as an Orvis Endorsed Dog Breeder. What began as one hundred seventy acres has now grown to over six thousand one hundred acres of rolling hills and long leaf pine creating perfect conditions for the avid bird hunter. Currently, SouthWind Plantation offers ten uniquely furnished lodges capable of accommodating sixty-five guests. In addition to these services, they recently completed Smith Station, an 11,000 square foot multi-purpose corporate facility, which is available year round. “We have worked hard in growing our wildlife habitat for the filling purpose behind quail, which is our native bird to this area. In the last two years, we have added 1,100 acres of pristine woodlands for your next eastern gobbler, trophy whitetail and corporate outing for a dive hunt. Although we take great pride in our recognition as one of the world’s finest Orvis Endorsed Wing-Shooting destinations, we are more honored by the lasting relationships that have been built with many of our guests who have become part of our ‘SouthWind Family’. It has been amazing to see many of the same faces return each year for another memorable hunting experience.” Owner, Tim Smith, believes the relationships they have built with customers, making them feel “at home,” separates SouthWind from other commercial hunting plantations.
