The Bearcats took on the Dougherty Trojans last Thursday night and brought home a huge region win, 56-7. However, this week the Bearcats are looking forward to being back under the Centennial Field Stadium Lights as they take on Dade Christian High School Crusaders out of Miami, Fla.
Coach Jeff Littleton said before the football season started, three of the Bearcats’ games were cancelled and he reached out to Dade Christian to see if they would be interested in playing. The school responded with a resounding “yes.”
The Crusaders hold a 3-3 record, as do the Bearcats, but other than that, Littleton said he didn’t know much about them.
Littleton has been able to view some film and knows they are built around a core defense, who have a lot of speed. He also noted they have some great receivers.
Although the Bearcats don’t know much about the Crusaders, Littleton isn’t worried. He wants his team to focus on getting better every day and not compare themselves to other players.
“They are getting much better at their skilled positions,” Littleton said.
The stats from the Bearcats’ past six games prove the hard work is paying off.
Running Back Rashad Broadnax is leading the team in rushing.
Over the course of the past six games, Broadnax has had 96 carries for a gain of 503 yards.
Quarterback Quayde Hawkins leads the team in passing; he has had 155 attempted passes, with 89 of them being complete for a total of 1,050 yards.
Wide receiver Braxton Johnson leads the team in receiving. He has received the ball 26 times throughout the season for 449 yards. Johnson also leads in punts. He has had 21 punts for 738 yards this season.
Nicholas Trye leads in kicks. He’s made 15 kicks for a total of 847 yards, while Blake Fagan leads in field goals, making 27 this year.
Littleton expects these stats to only go up from here.
The Bearcats will improve their stats on Friday night when the Crusaders travel 512 miles to Centennial Field. The game begins at 7:30 p.m.
