Dorothy Ellen Mock was born June 24, 1925 in Spartanburg, SC, the daughter of Oliver and Annie McGuffin Mock. She was a graduate of Climax High School. Dorothy married Haywood Martin and they made their home in Bainbridge. She was a faithful member of Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church.
Sydney Cochran is quoted as saying, “Dorothy had it together.” You can well bet she did. Dorothy was a homemaker in every sense of the word. The house was immaculately kept, the vegetables were canned, and anything you dreamed of eating was cooked upon request. The children and grandchildren report her cornbread dressing was something to brag about. Though Dorothy was a homebody, she loved to shop and dress nicely. Fridays were days she was sure to be in town…even if for only her hair appointment.
Survivors include her children, Bruce H. & Kathy Martin of Bainbridge, Carol Sumrall of Meridian, MS, and Angie & Mike Slater of Howey-in-the-Hills, Fl.; her sisters-in-law, Rita Mock and Dorothy Jean Morris; her grandchildren, Austin & Shelley, Hope & George, Wesley & Kyobi, Allison & Clint, Eric & Mikaela, Christopher, Brent & Lisa, Nicki & Dustin, and Tisha; her sixteen great-grandchildren and her one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Haywood Martin; and her brother, Joseph Mock.
