Marion Elizabeth Sadler was born April 5, 1945 in Chattahoochee, Fl., the daughter of Glendy and Cora Sembler Sadler. Following her high school graduation, Marion earned a bachelors degree from University of South Florida and later a masters degree from Valdosta State College. She married James “Jim” Young in 1964. Jim & Marion made Bainbridge their hometown in 1972. She retired from Decatur County Schools leaving big shoes to fill at John Johnson Elementary.

Known as “Mother Nature” to generations of second graders (but really everyone including parents & staff) at John Johnson Elementary, Marion shared her love for animals and gardening. She often participated in projects that involved all sorts of animals including the native animals that seemed to seek her out for refuge. Marion enjoyed working in her own yard and assisting students with the school garden. She had a sweet, caring spirit and the most calming voice especially in times of turmoil. Marion was always up for an adventure and claimed her greatest “adventure” was her family.

Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Jim Young; her children, Kristy Young and Jamie Young, both of Bainbridge, and Jenny & Ridge Harper of Tifton, Ga.; her siblings, Margaret & Jim Pepersack of Tallahassee, Fl., Orin & Mary Sadler also of Tallahassee, and Pal & Herb Sadler of Tybee Island, Ga.; and her grandchildren, Shelby, Coby-James, Bay, Charlee, and Sembler. Marion was preceded in death by her parents.
