Wanted suspect Chris Cooper was captured on Tuesday, April 21 by the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, following a series of tips that led to his location.
Cooper was wanted for originally stealing farm equipment from Green Circle Farms and stealing a vehicle from Bridges Equipment in Brinson, Georgia. Cooper also had connections to several other thefts in Seminole, Grady and Mitchell County.
Criminal investigator, Vincent Edmond said DCSO received a tip about Cooper’s whereabouts on Tuesday. The tip pointed officers to Jackson County, Florida.
Following the trail of information, Edmond, Chief Investigator Elijah McCoy and several investigators from Grady County traveled to Jackson County and located Cooper.
Cooper was arrested on scene and later interviewed by Edmond and Investigator Terry Phillips. Cooper admitted to stealing from Green Circle Farms and stealing a vehicle from Bridges Equipment. He told officers he was addicted to drugs and his drug problem led him to make these decisions.
Following the interview, investigators recovered multiple pieces of property that had been stolen from various counties. They are in the process of returning these items.
Edmond said this could not have been done without the help of people’s tips.
“Thank you to the citizens of Decatur and surrounding counties for leading us to his whereabouts,” Edmond said.
Sheriff Wiley Griffin also thanked everyone for their help in this matter, noting their were more than 1,000 shares of his wanted poster that led to Cooper’s capture.
