Wednesday, March 25, was a victory for recent homicide victim, Angela Mae Young’s family. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Decatur County Sheriff’s Office found and charged suspect Larry Jason Hood in connection to Young’s murder.
GBI Special agent, Jamy Steinberg said investigators were on to Hood quickly after cooperative witnesses told investigators what they knew about him and Young’s relationship.
Young and Hood had been in an on and off relationship for some time, causing speculation Hood may know something. Following the witnesses’ statements, the Sheriff’s Office was able to perform investigative acts and collect evidence on Saturday night that led to the arrest of Hood on Wednesday.
GBI and the Sheriff’s Office first located Hood on Sunday in a camper trailer on Open Pond Road in Whigham. He was initially interviewed by the GBI and DCSO investigators before being charged on drug related charges that afternoon.
He remained in jail, where he was then served with additional warrants for malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping and false imprisonment.
Hood will remain in jail for his current and previous charges, as the case is still active and ongoing.
Once the case is complete, it will be turned over to District Attorney Joe Mulholland for prosecution. Anyone with any additional information regarding the case is encouraged to contact the GBI at 229-225-4090 or the DCSO at 229-248-3044.
Due to the circumstances, Young’s family was not prepared for a burial any time soon and has created a fundraiser to help her two teenage children bury their mother. The fundraiser can be found on Tabitha Ritter’s Facebook page for those who would like to donate in her memory.
