Elaine Tipton Duke, age 86, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020, surrounded by her family in Bainbridge, Georgia.  Services for Mrs. Duke will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 13, 2020, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home.  The Rev. Russell Carlisle will officiate.  Interment will follow in Roselawn Memory Gardens. Josh Carlisle, Brad Dearth, Mickey Carlisle, Bill Knight, David Beam, and John Duke, Jr. will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 1 p.m.

 

Elaine Tipton Duke was born May 12, 1933 in Bainbridge, Georgia.  Her parents, Thomas Jefferson Tipton and Myrtle Emanuel Tipton, have preceded her in death.  Elaine married Willis Jenkins Duke.  Jenkins passed away in 2004.  A member of Calvary Baptist Church, she enjoyed singing in the choir.  A gifted crafter, Elaine loved to sew, quilt, and work with stained glass.  She also had a “green” thumb and enjoyed working in the yard.  Elaine was all about family.  She enjoyed being with her children and grandchildren.  She loved to cook and have her family with her.  Elaine Duke will be deeply missed by her large family and many friends.

 

Mrs. Duke is survived by her children, Jimmy Duke of Albany, Georgia, Beverly Knight (Bill) of Cordele, Georgia, Clay Duke of Easley, South Carolina, Angela Carlisle (Mickey) of Attapulgus, Georgia, Eric Duke of Plano, Texas, and Keith Duke (Ashley) of Tallahassee, Florida; brother, Benny Tipton of Trussville, Alabama; grandchildren, Michelle Jones (Ed), P. J. Knight, Misty Dearth (Brad), Jarred Duke, Kristina Beam (David), Joshua Carlisle, and Jesse Duke; great-grandchildren, Britt Jones, Jake Jones, Emily Jones, Harleigh Dearth, Kenleigh Dearth, Millie Beam, Teagan Carlisle, Sutton Carlisle and Dax Carlisle.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jenkins Duke; parents, Thomas Jefferson and Myrtle Tipton; brothers, Ronnie, James and Tommy Tipton; sister, Deloris Tipton Bowen; and her grandson’s Clay Duke, Jr. and Caleb Carlisle.

 

Thank you to special caregivers, Glenda, Henrietta, Geneva, and Mary and Southwest Georgia Hospice, Roger and Melissa, for the love, care, and compassion shown while caring for Elaine.
