Decatur County Sheriff’s Office and Georgia State Patrol responded to an incident on Meredith Jones Road on Sunday, where a man had been struck by a vehicle and eventually succumbed to his injuries.
According to GSP Trooper Marc Marchant, Evelyn Palmer, 42, was in a dispute with Trinity Fowler, 44, when she decided to leave her location on Meredith Jones Road in her vehicle.
Fowler jumped on Palmer’s vehicle hood to prevent her from leaving, however Palmer did not stop and continued traveling west. She eventually slammed on breaks causing Fowler to be ejected from the hood of the vehicle. Fowler hit his head on the hard, dirt road, as Palmer continued to drive away.
Witnessing this incident, neighbors called the Sheriff’s Office and ran out to help Fowler before Palmer returned.
Upon arrival, DCSO alerted Marchant and GSP, who arrived on scene.
“I’ve never seen anything like this happen in all my time working at GSP,” Marchant said.
Fowler was visibly injured from the fall and was lifeflighted by Air Heart to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where he later passed.
Palmer was then charged with serious injury by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and driving under the influence of drugs. She was taken to the Decatur County Jail with a bond of $2,600.
