Ricki William Laing, 62, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020.

The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Southwest Baptist Church with Pastor Stanley Phillips officiating. Jimmy Boyett, Rodney Heard, Scott Harry, Ray Rosenkrantz, Phillip Gaskins and Gage Gaskins and Kevin Singletary will serve as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to:

Ricki William Laing was born November 2, 1957 in Quincy, Fla., the son of William Carl Laing and Alice Askew Laing. He was a graduate of North Florida Christian and later earned as associate degree from Bainbridge College. He married Denise Cloud in 1979 and they made their home in the South Georgia-North Florida area. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church.

Ricki loved life and everything about it. He enjoyed piddling on the farm, quail hunting & working his dogs and whatever was being served for breakfast at Betty’s Cafeteria. (Sometimes he’d pick up a guitar and even sing a little diddy about the latest goings on.) He never met a stranger even though he often stood back and watched things unfold. He considered his children his treasures in life and cherished them as such. Ricki marched to his own beat and with a dry sense of humor would say, “I didn’t give up. I just gave out.”

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Denise Laing; his children, Jessica Laing Dyson and her husband, Donnie, of Brinson, Ga. and Will Laing and his wife, Sage, of Bainbridge; his mother, Alice Laing of Havana, Fla.; his brother, David Laing and his wife, Vickie, of Tallahassee; his brother-in-law, Troy Sheffield of Iron City, Ga; “Unc’s” nieces and nephews, Kyle & Ashley Sheffield,  Drew & Anslee Sheffield, Stacey & Bryan Burch, and Courtney & Case White; and his great-niece, Harper Grace. Ricki was preceded in death by his father, William Carl Laing; his sister, Carla Laing; and his sister-in-law, Alicia Sheffield.
