Lady Cougars get win on HoCo

The Grace Christian Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars basketball teams took on Robert F. Munroe on Friday night for their homecoming game, where the Lady Cougars blew out the competition, winning 65-7.

The Lady Cougars kicked off the first quarter, netting 16 points, while RFM only put in two points. Lainey McRae scored six points, making two free throws, while Caroline Wells and Kate McRae scored four points and Emellia Woodrum scored two.

The Lady Cougars continued to bring the heat into the second quarter, scoring 21 points and RFM scoring three. Woodrum was the big scorer in the second quarter, making three layups and hitting her free throw. Lainey scored six points, while Wells and Kate scored four points.

Following half time, the Lady Cougars came out blazing again, scoring 20 points, while RFM put two points on the board. Katherine Griffin put up five points, making a three pointer and two free throws. Woodrum also made a three pointer, Wells and Mary Glenn Warr scored four points, while both McRae sisters went for a layup.

The game ended with the Lady Cougars scoring eight points in the final quarter, while they prevented RFM from scoring any additional points. Woodrum finished the night out with two layups, while Kassidy Widner and Wells adding two points to the final tally.

The Cougars played tough and held RFM through the third quarter, but eventually fell just short of a win. However, the game saw huge plays from Seth Parker, who scored 20 points throughout the night. Carter Hathcoat and Gabe Parker also contributed with nine points each and Wyatt Carpenter netting eight points.

Both the Cougars and Lady Cougars will play in the region competition at ABAC this week.

The Lady cougars will face off against HCA, while the Cougars face off against GCS on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The consolation game and championship games will both be played on Friday night.
