Laquita Joy Sadler was born November 20, 1931 in Bainbridge, Ga., the daughter of General Warfield and Maude Johnson Sadler. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. She married Carl Jackson “Bubba” Jones, Jr. and made their home in Climax. Early in her life, Laquita worked as a nurse. She was a member of Climax Baptist Church.
Laquita had a heart for animals, which may explain some of her character traits, like being stubborn as a mule and loyal as a good dog. She loved to cook especially if the dish was something she’d never tried before. Cakes and pickles were her specialties and her coconut pound cake was particularly noteworthy.
Survivors include her children, Carl Jackson “Rusty” Jones, III and Sandy & Eddie Josey all of Climax; her grandchildren, Christopher, Joel and Joy Anne; and her great-grandchildren, Aubri and Emma. In addition to her parents, Laquita was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Carl J. “Bubba” Jones, Jr.; and her siblings, G.W. Shirley, Eunice, Bernice, Beatrice and Lucille.
