Betty Merritt Hester, 80, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Friday, December 27, 2019.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Kirkland officiating. A private interment followed at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Betty Hester was born May 5, 1939, in Whigham, Ga., the daughter of James Gordon Merritt and Leona Mae Reeves Merritt.  Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Decatur County Lions Club.  She married the love of her life, Cawthon Bell Hester, on August 4, 1962.  In her early years, Betty worked for Miller Hydro and for Decatur County Tax Office. She enjoyed early morning walks and working in the yard and in her garden. Betty loved her family above all else.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, C.B. (Cotton) Hester; her daughters, Tammy Hester Cleaveland of Farmington, Ga. and Sandy Michelle Hester of New Orleans, La.; and her grandson, Atticus Cawthon Cleaveland of Farmington, Ga.. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, numerous siblings, and friends.
