Francine Marrie Black was born June 17, 1934 in Blakely, Ga., the daughter of Willie W. Gunn and Susie Mae Carden Gunn. She married Robert Black and lived in southwest Georgia her entire life. She worked at T G & Y and later as a bus driver for Decatur County Schools, retiring with 25+ years. Francine was of the Nazarene faith.
Every single child that ever rode her bus and most anyone around Bainbridge knew Francine as “Miss Black”. She loved her family with her whole heart and rode them like packed mules on the off days. “Miss Black” was stubborn, set in her ways and said exactly what she thought. She didn’t hold back especially if she thought it would do you some good. “Miss Black” enjoyed watching television, listening to country music and eating black walnut ice cream. She had an affection for cats and could never seem to let a stray pass by her house.
Survivors include her children, Dellores & Max McCuller of Quitman, Ga., Shirley & Bob Fackler of North Bloomfield, Ohio, Gloria Hooks Chapman of Bainbridge, Elaine Childress & Anthony, also of Bainbridge, and Karen & John Bedwell of Colquitt, Ga.; her sister, Mildred Bullard of Atlanta, Ga.; and her eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Francine was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Robert Black; and her siblings, Gene Gunn, Vernon Gunn and Ann Grubbs.
