Betty Jo Widener was born May 25, 1933 in Bainbridge, the daughter of Lee Vesta and Mae Dee Harrell Widener. She graduated from Bainbridge High School, Class of 1950 and worked for Farm Credit as an accountant for 32 years.

Betty was a Christian by faith. She loved to listen to the word of God and was a long-standing member of First Baptist Church of Bainbridge.  Family time meant the world to Betty.  She always wanted to be surrounded by those she held dearest to her heart. Betty liked to travel and see the sights, especially soaking up the sun at Mexico Beach. When she wasn’t enjoying a little quiet time getting lost in her favorite book, she was cheering on her favorite sports while watching them on the TV.

Survivors include her children, Forrest & LeeAnn Elkins of Bainbridge, Susan Elkins & George F. Grimsley of Tallahassee, Fla., and Larry Elkins of Climax, Ga.; her brother, William V Widener also of Climax; her grandchildren, George F.  Grimsley Jr. & Heather, William Grimsley, Mary Katherine & Andrew Gay, and Liam Anthony Elkins; and her 5 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Ruth Gilliam, Leonard N. Widener, and Harrell Widener.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Betty’s caretaker, Tina Cunningham.
