Ferris Roger Granade, Sr. was born on September 28, 1947 at Cullman Hospital in Cullman, Al. “Roger” as we all knew him worked as a shipyard supervisor at Zito Metcalf, and as an Industrial Designer/Draftsman with Northrop Grumman in Destrehan, LA.
Roger graduated from West Jefferson High School, Harvey, LA. and earned an Associates degree at age 50 in Industrial Design and Technology from Southeastern Lousiana University, Hammond,LA. In 1966, he served his country in the United States Air Force as an Air Freight Specialist with the 1370th Photo Mapping wing (MAC). He loved watching sports, especially the New Orleans Saints and Alabama Crimson Tide, but his joy was in watching his youngest daughter, Sabrina, play college softball. He inherited the “nail and hammer skill” and could build almost anything he put his mind on.
His greatest love of all was his family. He was a loving husband to his cherished wife Marie Elaine Cotton Granade for 50 years and exemplary father to his 7 children and grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was generous with his love, time, kindness and knowledge. Roger lost his brief battle with cancer on November 22, 2019 at 8 p.m. at Southeast Health Medical Center in Dothan, Al. surrounded by his family. We will all morn this great mans earthly presence. He will be remembered with love by his wife, Marie, his sisters, Francis and Larry Yeske; Myra and Gary Foster, his children and there spouses: son, Ferris Jr. & Kristy Granade, his six daughters, Tammy and Kirk Simoneaux, Theresa And Randy Ortego, Michelle Granade, Amanda and Zeb Carter, Tabetha and Steven Bowman, and Sabrina Granade. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ferris Churchel Granade and Mary Lee Blevins Granade.
Visitation will be held at Colquitt Funeral Home on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 11 a.m. until noon. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 12 p.m. at Sheffield Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Williamson officiating. Interment to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery with Ferris Granade, Jr., Joshua Ortego, Logan Granade, Lucas Ortego, Micha Granade, Dalton Carter, Anthony Simoneaux, and Adam Simoneaux serving as active pall bearers.
