Monday morning Georgia State Patrol Trooper Meed Kelley responded to a fatal single vehicle accident on Hwy. 97 after a van ran off the road.
Kelley reported that a 2003 Chevrolet Astro van carrying five people was traveling south on Hwy. 97 near mile marker 36, when the driver ran off the road and struck a tree.
Kelley said the driver was fatigued after driving all night long, causing them to veer off the road. When the vehicle struck the tree, one of the female passengers passed away upon impact. The remaining passengers were all transported to the hospital with injuries, as none of them were wearing their seatbelts.
This fatal accident is the third accident in a matter of days and Kelley is warning drivers to please slow down, remove distractions such as cellphones and wear their seatbelt.
