Members achieve success at the Georgia National Fair Market Lamb Show

Decatur County 4-H members, Rachel Hayes and Scott Ross Hayes exhibited lambs at the 30th anniversary Georgia National Fair on October 4-6, 2019.  Rachel Hayes, Bainbridge High School freshman, was named Reserve Champion Market Lamb from over 400 entries.  Rachel also placed 1st in class with two black-face entries, 2nd in class with one entry, and was named Reserve Champion Division III. She was 5th place in 9th grade showmanship.

Scott Ross Hayes won 1st place in 3rd grade showmanship.  Additionally, he exhibited the Reserve Champion Division I Market Lamb, 1st place in class with a black-face entry, and 1st in class with a natural entry.  Scott Ross is a 3rd grade student at Jones Wheat Elementary. 

Mr. Jimmy Davis from Oklahoma served as the judge for the weekend and evaluated the sheep in classes and the exhibitors in showmanship.

These 4-H livestock exhibitors represent Decatur County as part of the Decatur County/Bainbridge Show Team as they take part in livestock shows all over the south.  As a result of their participation, youth gain character traits including responsibility, caring and fairness among others, and certainly the reward of hard-work and dedication.  In addition, they practice numerous life skills including teamwork, self motivation, self esteem, critical thinking, decision making, goal setting, cooperation, and communication.
