Lynda Gayle Jenkins was born January 20, 1949 in Donalsonville, Ga., the daughter of W.P. and Drue Yearta Jenkins. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School and worked as a paraprofessional for years at West Bainbridge Elementary School. Gayle married Rickey L. Powell in 1967 and they made their home in Bainbridge. She was Freewill Baptist by faith.

Gayle retired from West Bainbridge Elementary School leaving a legacy of love among her school children. She enjoyed spending time in the mountains and at the beach…in fact, anywhere she could read a good book. Known affectionately as Granny Gayle or GiGi for short, she poured herself into her grandchildren making it evident where their bread was buttered. Rickey was the love of her life and her commitment to him was unmatched.  Gayle wanted every day to be a day lasting memories were made.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Rickey L. Powell; her children, Jeff & Belinda Powell and Todd & Jennifer Powell; her grandchildren, Shelby, Seth and Landry; and her great-granddaughter, Carolina. In addition to her parents, Gayle was preceded in death by her brother, Derrell Wayne Jenkins; and her grandson, Dylan.
