USTA Georgia announced that Bainbridge has been selected to host the USTA Southern Combo State Tournament October 25-27. This tournament was originally scheduled this time last year, but due to Hurricane Michael had to be cancelled.

“Again, this is exciting news for Bainbridge businesses, over 500 players and family members will eat in our restaurants, shop our stores and lodge in our hotels.  Some teams have even rented houses for the 3 day tournament” said Tournament Coordinator Tabitha Spooner.  “If you enjoy watching competitive tennis there will be plenty to see.”

Bill Reynolds Tennis Center will be tournament headquarters and Floyd Tennis Complex, BHS and Potter St courts will also be used for matches”, said Spooner. Matches start as early as 8am. Two age groups will compete, 18 yr olds and over as well as 40 yr olds and over.

When Bainbridge last hosted this tournament local businesses reported a spike in sales and foot traffic and were very welcoming to tournament participants. With the additional opening of many new downtown businesses Bainbridge will benefit from the influx of players traveling to our city from Atlanta, Savannah, Rome, Albany and other parts of the state.

The last time this event was hosted here players and their families gave Bainbridge and the local tennis volunteers high praise for their hospitality and organization of such a well run tournament. “Without local participation from volunteers and support from the City of Bainbridge and Decatur County, as well as local businesses this tournament would not be possible” said Spooner, “we thank them all and look forward to a great weekend of tennis.”
