Kiwanis Club of Bainbridge has a new inaugural fundraiser that they are hoping to involve the community in and also bring a little Halloween spirit. The club is hosting a scarecrow festival.

Businesses and individuals can register for the festival for $25. The registration includes a scarecrow stand, which can be picked up at Cooper’s Plumbing and Air or The Post-Searchlight.

Once picked up, entrants can decorate their scarecrow in various themes from, traditional to whimsical, humorous, mischievous or lovable. However, the club is asking for no bloody or violent themes nor ones that advertise political or religious statements.

Upon choosing a theme, the process of building begins. The scarecrows must be durable and able to stand up to sun, wind and rain showers, as they will be displayed from October 1 through November 1.  All decorations must be firmly attached to the scarecrow; this includes extra props such as, bales of hay, corn stalks and more. The only condition is the scarecrow must be taller than 4’.

Once the scarecrow is finally finished, contestants will send in their picture and fans can vote for their favorite scarecrow at http://bit.ly/voteformyscarecrow.

Prizes will then be awarded to best entry by a business or organization, best entry by a school, best entry by an individual and most creative overall.

The funds raised from the scarecrow festival will help fund the numerous projects Kiwanis is involved in that benefit the children of the community.
