Sara Nell Pharr was born October 3, 1926, in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the daughter of George Edward Pharr Sr. and Lillian Lewis Pharr. She was a graduate of Tuscaloosa High School and the University of Alabama. She married Homer Franklin Cole Jr. in 1947.  Family and faith were the primary focus of her attention.  She was a strong supporter of her husband’s career.  Family moves from Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Ohio and Florida were made easier through hard work and positive attitude.  Likewise she was interested in and proud of the accomplishments of her sons and their respective families, especially her grandchildren.  She made friends wherever she was.  She said, “I find people interesting” and loved to talk.  Sometimes longer than was necessary.  Wherever she was, Sue was the light of the room.  Many in various communities benefitted from her years of volunteering for various causes and organizations. Sue was an active member of First United Methodist Church, The Mary O’Quinn Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her children, Vernon & Susanne Cole of Worthington, Ohio and Ed & Starr Cole of Bainbridge, Ga.; her grandchildren, Hehle Cole, Ward & Rebecca Cole, David & Jessie Cole, Eric & Josie Cole and Mary & Eric Macedo; and her great-grandchildren, Lauren, Anna and Jason Cole. In addition to her parents, Sue was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Homer Franklin Cole Jr.; and her brother George Edward Pharr Jr.

The family would like to express sincere appreciation to her friends, the church community, her dedicated caregivers, the nurses and staff of Memorial Hospital and Manor and Dr. Sydney Cochran.
